    One of the most appealing aspects of the rise of cryptocurrency is its promise of a decentralized system of finance where consumers and merchants can set the rates of exchange themselves and cut out the banks and other middle men so critical to modern trade.

    Of course, one of the biggest middle men is the government itself and now the challenge that cryptocurrency presents to the authority of fiat currency is getting its biggest battle yet as Facebook announces its own crypto project called Libra.

    And the social media platform has a lot of major companies, like MasterCard, Visa, eBay, Vodaphone, PayPal, Uber, Spotify, Lyft, Rubit Capital, Mercy Corps, signing on board to support the cryptocoin which could be the next big thing in blockchain as well as a possible currency for space exploration and tourism.

    Will Libra become the space digital currency? Only time will tell but we will explore some of the more interesting aspects of this potential space and earth digital currency.


    Facebook’s debut of its own cryptocurrency caught a lot of analysts by surprise and the crypto world no less so. But that surprise wasn’t an unpleasant one as many see Facebook’s entre into the financial segment as proof positive that blockchain-based currencies are here to stay.

     

    This is primarily because of Facebook’s massive user base of some 2 and half billion as well as its suite of apps that have a huge impact on the way firms sell and market their wares to consumers.



    Controlling all of this through a crypto currency that they own makes perfect sense. Looking beyond just what’s going on right here and now, could Facebook’s new cryptocurrency become Space Currency Libra, the crypto that finally frees us from terrestrial fiat currency and enables firms, tourists, and countries to conduct transactions in space?

     

     

    That’s not as far fetched as it might seem - especially given how much space tourism and international cooperation in space exploration is expected to increase in the coming years.


    Facebook’s own white paper on the cryptocurrency states the following;

     “Securing your financial assets on your mobile device should be simple and intuitive. Moving money around globally should be as easy and cost-effective as — and even more safe and secure than — sending a text message or sharing a photo, no matter where you live, what you do, or how much you earn.

    New product innovation and additional entrants to the ecosystem will enable the lowering of barriers to access and cost of capital for everyone and facilitate frictionless payments for more people.”



    The three pillars of this new cryptocurrency are that it is backed by a reserve, involves a governing association of companies, and is predicated on reliable blockchain technology.

     

    The more immediate aim for Facebook is to bring financial services and access to global markets to the end user through a secure, mobile system of currency and payments.

     


    Beyond that, Facebook is hoping to build out a vast, interconnected transaction network that completely removes the need for a central fiat currency and returns power to the consumer in many ways.

     

    Whether or not Libra will become the space digital currency of choice remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that it is the future.

    The nation of India shares a land border with Pakistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal, China, and Bangladesh.

    It was announced in recent times that the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization)will launch a satellite solely for the Home Ministry to further improve its frontier with Bangladesh, Pakistan and other countries that share a border with India.

    This is based on the official statement revealed on the 17th of January 2019. This project is based on the recommendation of a task force that advises the use of space technology to improve border control.

     

     

    This recommendation was accepted by the Home Minister Rajnath Singh. This satellite will also be used to guide the deployment of Central para-military forces in remote and difficult areas.


    The major recommendation of the report is to improve the capacity in border guarding forces to utilize space resources for the operational planning system, Island development, communication and navigation, GIS border infrastructural development and security. This was revealed by the Home Ministry.


    In order to execute this project in a time-bound manner, short, medium and long term plans were proposed for implementation over a period of about 5 years. This initiative will be done in close coordination with the defense ministry and ISRO.


    The short term need involves meeting the immediate need of border guarding forces by getting high-resolution imagery and enhanced bandwidth for communications.

    The statement also revealed that the mid-term plan involves the use of a satellite being launched by the ISRO for exclusive use by the Home Ministry.


    The long term plans involve the home ministry building ground segment and network infrastructure to share satellite resources by user agencies, build a Central Archival Facility for storing various imagery resources and dissemination of the same to user agencies.


    Satellite communication will also be used to coordinate the Deployment of the Central Armed Forces in a remote and difficult area.

    Operational parties in high altitude, remote and difficult borders, and Naxal areas will get navigation facilities from the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS)-based GPS, the Home Ministry revealed.


    It was also revealed that the implementation of the ground segment and network infrastructure, including the development of the archival facility, will be done by the Border Security Force (BSF) as the lead agency.


    The Department of space will help the home ministry in the implementation of this initiative.

    This initiative was developed in an effort to strengthen island and border security and make the development of infrastructure in border/island areas easier.


    The task force has members from the Department of Space and BSF and it is headed by Joint Secretary (Border Management). This task force consulted every shareholder including National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), the Defense Ministry, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Border Guarding Forces (BGFs) to finalize the report.


    The major recommendation of the report is to improve the capacity in border guarding forces to utilize space resources for the operational planning system, Island development, communication and navigation, GIS border infrastructural development and security.

    SPACE X AND TINTIN

     

    Once again, Space X’s founder, Elon Musk has put his love of fantasy and science fiction on full display in one of Space X’s latest spaceship design. This new spaceship has a very similar design to the moon rocket from “The Adventures of Tintin: Explorers on the Moon” written by Herge.

    However, unlike the spaceship in Tintin, Space X’s spaceship is very real. Elon Musk, the present CEO of Space X and electric car making Tesla has told the public that this spaceship is, in fact, a “Starship Hopper” that has a shimmering and stainless steel construction.

    However, this spaceship has been said to look similar to the moon rocket in “The Adventures of Tintin: Explorers on the Moon” and it is not coincidental as Elon Musk himself has said that the new design of the “Big Falcon Rocket” (BFR) is in fact inspired by the Tintin rocket design. He said these words in September when revealing the new spaceship design “I love the Tintin rocket design, so I kind of wanted to bias it towards that”. The famous CEO of Space X later added “If in doubt” “Go with Tintin”. The Big Falcon rocket was first revealed at the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia, in September 2017.

    The new BFR is a 120 feet tall starship hopper in the form of a tubular, pointy-topped rocket that has three rear fins that act as landing pads for the spaceship. This new spaceship is said to be an essential part of the famous entrepreneur’s grand plan to travel and eventually colonize the Red Planet, Mars. However, when this spaceship’s design was revealed, it was not yet ready for space flight; it was a test flight rocket. This spaceship was initially designed for suborbital Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) tests. Elon Musk has revealed that the orbital version is taller, designed with thicker skins that will not wrinkle and has a smoothly curving nose section. The famous CEO then tweeted a picture of the stainless steel, pointy-topped rocket revealing that it was not rendering.

    The BFR is a refuellable three-part Starship Hopper that was assembled at the Space X factory located somewhere near the Boca Chica village in South Texas. The BFR is constructed with stainless steel that will make the spaceship look like liquid silver when the exterior gets too hot for paint. The stainless steel that is used to construct this BFR is better at handling extremely hot and cold temperatures than carbon fiber and it will also require less shielding.

    Space X has also announced that the BFR starship hopper will also ferry some people around the moon. These people were later revealed to be Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa and a group of artists. This event is set to take place sometime in 2023 as the first passenger flight for Space X. The famous space company also has plans to send two BFRs to the Red Planet, Mars in 2022 and four more BFRs in 2024. Two of the four BFRs that are set to be sent to Mars in 2024 will ferry the first humans to Mars while the remaining four will carry the supplies so that they can refuel and return home.

    It’s no doubt that there is a lot going on in and around space, new discoveries have been made and missions are being planned and technology being put in place for execution.

    Elon Musk’s SpaceX announced that they would send the Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa to the moon. Yusaku said that he would not go alone; he would go together with six artists.

    “I choose to go to the moon,” said Yusaku.

    Yusaku is a passionate art collector and solar system.

    The first one is the Voyager 1 which travelled into interstellar space in 2012. There are Voyager 2 and New Horizons which are still active. The others are Pioneers 10 and 11 which have remained inactive for many years.

    With new discoveries of the solar system, we are definitely going to see more tech innovation and information.
